Contacting Legislators

It's a good idea to get your ducks-in-a-row prior to contacting your legislators so you'll make a good impression. In addition to the information on this page, be sure to also check the following:

Why is it important for you to contact legislators?

You may be thinking to yourself, "Why should I bother contacting a legislator? I'm sure a lot of other people are going to contact them."

Wrong!

It's so important for everyone interested in this issue, including you, to contact their legislator and here's why: There is power in numbers.

The more a legislator hears from people about a particular issue, the more likely they are to support the issue.

Think of it this way, if it were YOU sitting in their seat and you only got 1 or 2 emails/calls about a specific issue, how likely would you be to support the cause?

But what if you got 50, 100, or 1,000 emails/calls, especially if a lot were from registered voters in your district? Bet you'd be far more inclined to support the cause, right?

We know it can be a bit intimidating if you've never contacted elected officials before so we've put together some easy-to-follow steps to help you, starting with Step 1: Figure out what's your point.
